Rangelands cover vast areas of the world and are home to great numbers of plants, animals and people. They grow primarily native vegetation, unlike pastures which are artificially established by humans, and as such support incredible biodiversity.

These delicate ecosystems are vulnerable to many threats such as wildfire, overgrazing and human activities. Which is why it is our responsibility to treat them responsibly and with respect.

For a deep dive into the enormous environmental, economic and social values and benefits of rangelands as well as their different ecosystems, read more in The Rangeland Atlas, published jointly by WWF, the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Food and Agriculature Organization of the United Nations (FAO), UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and the International Land Coalition (ILC).
